When you work with Jose Leon, you’ll find an Associate Financial Planner at AO Wealth Advisory who believes financial planning is about more than simply managing money. Jose enjoys helping clients gain clarity around their financial position and seeing how that clarity can bring greater peace of mind and excitement for what’s possible. He believes thoughtful financial planning should help people make purposeful decisions about their resources and the life they want to build.

Jose is especially passionate about understanding opportunity costs and the often-overlooked tradeoffs behind financial decisions. While the dollars and cents are important, he believes the implicit costs of a decision can have an even greater impact. His goal is to help clients understand those tradeoffs, make informed choices, and feel confident about the path they’re taking.

A native of Sioux City, Iowa, Jose spent seven years working in various institutional investment roles. While he valued the analytical rigor of working with large institutions, he ultimately wanted a career where he could make a more direct and meaningful impact on people’s lives. Financial planning gave him that opportunity. Jose believes we each get one life, and financial planning isn’t about simply accumulating the largest possible pot of money. It’s about being purposeful with your resources so you can pursue meaning, fulfillment, and impact.

Jose graduated summa cum laude from Northwestern College with degrees in Business Administration-Finance and Marketing. He is also a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®) charterholder, an accomplishment that reflects the extensive education and rigorous training required to earn the CFA charter.

Outside of work, Jose embraces his nerdy side. He enjoys collecting Magic: The Gathering cards and playing Commander with friends, reading financial planning academic literature, and attending car shows throughout the Midwest. He and his wife, Hailey, enjoy movie and ice cream dates, frequent trips to Al’s Dairy Freeze, and playing Pokémon Go. Jose is also an early riser, starting his day around 3:45 a.m. and usually heading to bed around 7 p.m. It’s a routine he’s maintained since high school.
